Framer site not ranking? The SEO checklist to run

Checked against the sources below on 20 September 2026.

Framer sets some SEO basics up for you and leaves others to you. Knowing which is which is most of the job.

This checklist follows Framer's own SEO guide, which we checked on 20 September 2026, plus the checks we use ourselves, marked as such.

What Framer does for you

According to Framer's SEO guide, a Framer site includes a sitemap.xml and a robots.txt file automatically, and Framer optimises your images for SEO.

Open yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml and yourdomain.com/robots.txt to see both. If they load, that part is done.

What is left to you

  • A title and description on every page. Set these in site settings, for the whole site or page by page. A page without its own gives Google little to show in results.
  • One clear main heading. Framer's guide asks for a clear H1 on each page, so check that every page has one heading that says what the page is about.
  • Proper heading and image tags. Framer's guide says to adjust the semantic tags for headings and images yourself. A big line of text should be marked as a heading, not just styled to look like one.
  • Descriptive alt text. Every image needs alt text that describes it. Framer's guide asks for descriptions that end with punctuation.
  • A poster image on each video. Set a poster, meaning a thumbnail, for your videos.
  • Structured data. Framer's guide suggests JSON-LD structured data for pages where it applies.
  • Redirects. When you reorganise or redesign pages, add redirects so old addresses lead to the new ones.
  • Clean addresses. Use hyphens to separate words in page addresses.

How to check each one in five minutes

  1. Open a page in your browser, right-click and choose Inspect. Use the search box in the Elements panel to look for h1. You should find exactly one, and it should say what the page is about.
  2. Read the browser tab title on each page. If two pages share a title, give one of them its own.
  3. Open Google Search Console, add your site, and inspect an address. The result shows what Google fetched and whether the page is indexed.
  4. Run PageSpeed Insights on the mobile tab, and read our guide to slow mobile sites if the numbers are poor.

If a page still isn't on Google

Framer's SEO guide does not say whether pages are rendered on the server or in the browser, so don't assume. Use the inspection result in Search Console to see what Google actually received.

Then read the exact status Google gives. "Discovered, currently not indexed" means Google found the page but hasn't crawled it yet. "Crawled, currently not indexed" means it was crawled but not added, and might be later. A noindex tag or a robots.txt block are different problems with different fixes.

Our Fix & Launch service starts at $450. We go through this checklist page by page, fix what is missing, set up Search Console, and send you a before and after report so you can see what changed.
